Speculum Music Festival
An Alice in Wonderland themed music festival concept. Speculum's definition is: (late Middle English) from Latin, literally ‘mirror’, from specere ‘to look’; a looking glass. My body of work takes viewers through their own mental journey, or fairytale, both physically and virtually. Because the word speculum is Latin for looking glass (or mirror), I decided to spin the term to also include phone screens. The viewers are expected to take on the role of Alice and transport into the abstracted world of thought through both an augmented reality experience and a physical music festival. I chose a music festival as the vessel for my concept because I believe that music has the ability to “teleport” our minds elsewhere in times of need, and music also has a strong connection to thoughts and memories. I have included similar symbolism throughout my designs that parallel those used in Lewis Carrol’s novel, Alice in Wonderland, and the more that the viewer can find and understand them, the further down the rabbit hole they will go.
